When Should Plan C kick in with medications?
A quote from Medscape once said for those who are obese: “you need to immediately to intensive, multicomponent behavioral interventions,” according to an updated recommendation statement from the US Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF).
This works for many people and can help you avoid the long term complications of obesity. Those long term complications, to few to name, include diabetes, heart disease, cancer, and unfortunately early death (prior to 65).\
It is very clear however that weight loss for those who are just overweight, and not clinically obese is just as medically important.
The most successful diet medicines are those which release insulin, also called ‘incretins.’ That’s what we also call the GLP-1 medicines that work for weight loss, control of diabetic blood sugar abnormalities, and prevention of heart disease, treatment of sleep apnea, and diabetes.
Right now, there is not a recommendation for a specific diet medication, if you do not have other illnesses. There are a number of diet medications FDA approved, and a personal physician can help you make an informed choice.
