Lifestyle Medicine Experts Say You Should Do

At Women’s Health Practice we will offer specific medical advice on how lifestyle advice will positively impact your health. Only 5 % of the population meets what the American Heart Association has classified as “optimal cardiovascular health.” Over 90 percent of diabetes and over 80 percent of cancer can be prevented with positive health practices. 13 different cancers are specifically linked to having excess body fatness. But we aren’t doing the simple stuff and now 2/3 of people are over weight, and 46% of the population has hypertension. Only 20% of teens get enough exercise! For specific exercise recommendations, come to Hatha Yoga and Fitness for your consultation.

Here’s what you should do

  1. Eat more vegetables
  2. Eat more fruit
  3. Eat whole grains
  4. Get your BMI under 25 (and over 19)
  5. Exercise 30 minutes or more on most days (for weight loss you need to do more)
  6. Don’t smoke
  7. Drink 1 alcoholic beverage per day (debated a bit because some will become alcoholic if they regularly consume)
