Covid cannot be transferred from breast milk. No cases of Covid have been reported from breast milk.
A recent study looked at mom-baby units of up to 19 months postpartum. Many samples of their milk were investigated.
They tested before and after symptoms of SARS CoV-2 the Covid virus, as well as some stored samples, and rarely some virus RNA was detected in breast milk. Viral RNA is not infectious, and therefor transmission of infection is not possible.
The benefits of breastfeeding are more than proven. There is likely to be more research on this topic, and moms should consult their personal physicians for more guidance if they get sick. Hand washing hygiene and wearing a mask while direct breastfeeding if you have Covid is advised.
