Cosmetic is an FDA approved “injectable” for the non-surgical treatment of facial wrinkles. The procedure utilizes Botox injections directly into overactive muscles to improve the appearance of worry lines, frown lines, and crow's feet.
How does Botox Cosmetic work?
Botox Cosmetic temporarily blocks the transmission of nerve impulses to the injected muscles, weakening them. This leaves the overlying skin smoother, while other non-treated facial muscles can move normally. A very small amount of the Botox material is injected with a micro needle into the desired muscle. There is a slight pinprick sensation. After the procedure, the patient can apply make-up and drive herself home.
What about safety and side effects?
While Botox is a very potent toxin, it has a superlative safety record over more than 20 years of medical use. Temporary bruising at the treatment site is the most common side effect, which is more likely if you bruise easily, or take blood thinners, such as aspirin, ibuprofen, or similar drugs, certain herbals, Vitamin E, or prescription blood thinners. In rare cases, the toxin may migrate and effect nearby muscles. This complication is usually limited to 2-3 weeks duration and can usually be treated.
What results can I expect?
You can expect to see the onset of effect within 1-4 days and a full effect within 2-3 weeks. The effects are an inability or decreased ability to contract the treated muscles, and softening of the dynamic wrinkles associated with it. Deep wrinkles typically improve gradually, over time, and with continued treatment of the underlying muscle. Wrinkles and folds due to sagging skin, cheek sagging, for example, will not respond to Botox Cosmetic treatment. Botox Cosmetic effects are temporary, lasting 3-4 months. depending on the individual. Therefore, to maintain the Botox Cosmetic effects, it is necessary to repeat the injections 2-3 times a year. Early clinical evidence suggests the repeated Botox Cosmetic injections may lengthen the duration of the effect to as long as 6 months. In rare instances, some individuals may develop neutralizing antibodies to Botox Cosmetic, rendering future injections less effective. As with all medical/surgical treatments, individual results may vary.
What are the costs? Our fee for Botox Cosmetic treatments is $10/unit. Dosage depends on size and degree of muscle activity. Typical dose ranges are listed below:
| Glabella (area between the brows) | 25-35 units |
| Crow's Feet | 18-30 units |
| Touch-up Doses | $8/unit |
Every individual's anatomy and body chemistry is different. In addition to examination of the patient's expression, we use a standard injection pattern and dose schedule for a patient's first injection. We then have the patient return for evaluation 3 weeks after the initial treatment to assess the results, and perform a “touch-up”, if necessary. Typically, this recheck is only required after the first treatment and lets us know if we have to modify future treatments for that individual.
What is Restylane?
Restylane is a safe and natural cosmetic dermal filler that restores volume and fullness to the skin to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds. Restylane is FDA approved for the treatment of wrinkles around the mouth, often referred to as “laugh lines”, as well as lip enhancement.
What is Restylane made of?
Restylane is a non-animal-based hyaluronic acid that is formatted in gel form. The hyaluronic acid in Restylane is biodegradable and completely biocompatible with that naturally occurring in the human body.
Is Restylane safe?
Yes. Restylane has been used since 1996 in over 3 million treatments worldwide. Restylane is fully biocompatible and allergy testing is not required. You should not use Restylane if:
You should discontinue use of aspirin, Vitamin D, St. Johns Wort, or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications for 2 weeks prior to treatment to decrease potential bruising. You may experience some redness and/or swelling at the injection sites. This usually resolves within 7 days. You should avoid sun exposure and extreme cold until any swelling or redness has resolved. You should avoid any facial treatments, such as lasers and peels, until all redness and swelling has resolved.
How long does Restylane last?
Restylane is proven to deliver long lasting results. Studies show that Restylane generally lasts for 6 months. Restylane's stabilization technology helps maintain the cosmetic effect until the injected material is nearly gone; however, every individual will experience different results. Treatments are typically scheduled twice a year. Having a touch up treatment before the product has fully dissipated may enhance the lasting effects.

In March 2006, Dr. Suzanne Trupin, and Jan Dedrick, CMA, were recertified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). ACLS provides the knowledge and skills needed to evaluate and manage the
first 10 minutes of an adult ventricular fibrillation/ventricular tachycardia (VF/VT) arrest. To become certified, they learned to manage 10 core ACLS cases: a respiratory emergency, four types of cardiac arrest (simple VF/VT, complex VF/VT, PEA and asystole), four types of prearrest emergencies (bradychardia, stable tachycardia, unstable tachycardia and acute coronary syndromes) and stroke. Congratulations to Dr. Trupin and Jan on this achievement.
Dr. Suzanne Trupin was invited to present at Grand Rounds at the University of Michigan, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, in Ann Arbor, Michigan. On April 06, 2006, she presented the topic of “Extended Bisphosphonate Regimens”.

Approximately 75% of all pregnant women experience nausea and vomiting. Many women report symptoms throughout the day, although it is commonly known as “morning sickness”.
Which vitamin helps prevent birth defects?
Folic acid. 400 micrograms of folic acid daily can help prevent spina bifida and other birth defects. Good sourcesleafy vegetables, orange juice dried beans and legumes, and fortified cereals and other grains.
Pregnant women should avoid:
Hot tubs which can make women overheat and may harm a developing fetus. Hot sauce and spicy foods are OK as long as tolerated Sex is considered safe throughout most pregnancies but women with complications should check with their physician.
Sunscreens are by far the most effective anti-aging treatment for skin. For a sunscreen to be most effective it should contain a physical blocking agent (titaniam dioxide or zinc oxide) and be a minimum of a 30 SPF. These are not chemical sunscreens but physical blocking agents that do protect against both UVA and UVB rays. However, you cannot put any sunscreen on, waterproof or not, and expect it to protect you all day. All sun protection requires re-application to be effective!
