Morning After Pill Emergency Contraception

An important element of reproductive choice is the prevention of unwanted pregnancies. We can equip you with the tools to prevent childbearing until the right time for you. We have a wide range of patient literature on contraceptive methods. Our nurses and counselors can educate you as to the advantages and disadvantages of the various birth control methods, and help you choose which is best for you. We participate in a variety of contraception studies and are well versed in the most current information.

Essure Procedure

The only completely effective sterilization procedure with no failures in any of the clinical trials. There is no cutting into the body, and most patients at Women's Health Practice and Midwest Surgical Center can have the procedure under local anesthesia either with or without sedation. You can have general anesthesia as well. The Essure procedure is different than the traditional method of a surgical laparoscopic ligation that can be done in our center as well. With Essure there is no cutting into the body. Instead, an Essure trained doctor inserts spring-like coils, called micro-inserts, through the body’s natural pathways.

Morning After Pill Emergency Contraception

The Morning After Pill (MAP), also known as Emergency Contraception (EC), is now:

  • Offered over the counter for women over age 18.
  • Available by prescription only if under age 17.
  • Available via telephone consultation.
  • $29 fee for telephone consultation, which must be paid via credit card (Visa, Mastercard, DiscoverCard).
  • Covered by Illinois Department of Public Aid (Medicaid). You must have a valid Medicaid card and be seen in the office for consultation.

Ideally, EC should be started within 3 days after unprotected sex, but can be taken up to 5 days post-intercourse. Advanced prescriptions for those patients age 17 and under are available; this will allow you to have EC readily available for emergency situations.
