OVERVIEW

Mission Statement

The purpose of the Nurse Midwifery Service is to provide alternative, full-range gynecology and obstetrical services. In accordance with the values of Women’s Health Practice, this care will be humanistic, family-focused and individualized, preventative, satisfying and safe. We will strive to be a leader in the community and the profession.

Philosophy

We believe that a woman and her family should be involved in decisions regarding their health and well-being. We believe, also, that pregnancy and childbirth are healthy, normal life events, and that the care and education of women and their families should continue in a life-long process. We believe that the role of the nurse midwife includes educating, listening to, advising and supporting women and their families. It is our philosophy that medical interventions should be used only when necessary, not routinely. It is our goal to provide care that is personalized and dignified.

The Certified Nurse Midwife currently has privileges at Provena-Covenant Medical Center and pending privileges at Carle Foundation Hospital.

WOMEN'S WELLNESS

~ Beauty of a Woman ~

The beauty of a woman is not in the clothes
she wears, the figure she carries, or the way she combs
her hair. The beauty of a woman must be seen from her eyes,
Because that is the doorway to her heart, the place where love resides.
The beauty of a woman is not in a facial mole, But true beauty in a woman
is reflected in her soul. It is the caring that she lovingly gives,
the passion that she shows. The beauty of a woman with
passing years – only grows.

The Women’s Health Practice believe that preventative visits are key to a woman’s overall health.

See WHP website for more detailed information on the gynecological services we provide.

WATER BIRTHS

Water has its own unique way of helping labor. Just think of how relaxing the sounds of a babbling brook, waves washing ashore, or even a small indoor fountain can be. Soaking in a warm bath or shower during active labor (6cm or more) tends to help ease the pain of contractions, decreases adrenalin, and it is not unusual for a woman to dilate more quickly.

Provena Covenant Medical Center and Carle Foundation Hospital have waterbirthing facilites and we encourage you to consider this option when planning your birth.

DOULA

Doula (pronounced doo la) is a Greek word meaning “woman who serves”. Doulas are trained labor assistants who nurture and assist the laboring woman and her family.

The WHP providers are supportive of the Champaign-Urbana area doulas and welcome working with them.

To find out more information on doulas call Doulas of North America (DONA) 1-500-448-DONA or visit

eNatal.net

eNATAL is an Internet-based prenatal care system that enables obstetrical patients and providers to securely access prenatal records. If you are a pregnant patient currently being seen at Women's Health Practice for obstetrical care, you will be given a user ID and password to access your prenatal record. You cannot alter these records, but if you feel any information needs to be updated, let us know. We do post your laboratory reports to this site and during pregnancy may not get all messages transferred to Televox. If you are a provider seeing one of our patients in consult, please contact Women's Health Practice for additional information on accessing eNATAL.

Click here to view your laboratory results using Televox.

TELEVOX

Women's Health Practice has implemented Televox, a personalized laboratory-test-result system. This system allows you to retrieve your laboratory results 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, at a time most convenient for you. We understand that your time is valuable and believe it is the most accurate and effective way for you to retrieve confidential information. We will update test results and leave personal messages for you with Televox.

HOW DOES TELEVOX WORK?

After their scheduled appointment all patients will receive a card with their own Personal Identification Number (PIN) and a designated Televox phone number (866-662-3045) and web address mytestresults.com. The lab result information is the same via phone or website, so you can choose the option most convenient for you. This card will have a date and time when you can retrieve your lab results. This system will document and confirm to us at Women's Health Practice that you have received your test results. After receiving your test results, if you have additional questions or need more information, please contact a Women's Health Practice staff member.

We are pleased to announce the availability of First Trimester Prenatal Screening. This major new innovation in screening called Early Screen involves the combination of a dried blood free Beta/PAPP-A laboratory test with an Ultrasound nuchal translucency measurement assessment. Nuchal Translucency/free Beta/PAPP-A is an option for all pregnant women. Early Screen detects chromosomal, heart (40%), and other fetal anomalies and perinatal risks. Our Ultrasound technician has received an NT certificate from the Fetal Medicine Foundation in London England. Patients  may be referred for Early Screen evaluation between CRL 45 to 84mm which is 11w1d and 13w6d gestation. Our goal is to provide our patients the most advanced and accurate perinatal and genetic personalized care.
