Suzanne Trupin, M.D., F.A.C.O.G.

Suzanne Trupin, M.D., F.A.C.O.G. (Fellow American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists), has dedicated her entire career to women’s health issues. She is the owner and Chief Executive Officer of Women's Health Practice, L.L.C., Midwest Surgical Center, L.L.C., and Hada Cosmetic Medicine, L.L.C. She is Board Certified by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and recertified in 1994, 2000-2006 (annually), and Clinical Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Urbana-Champaign. Dr. Trupin served as Director and then Department Head at UICOM-UC from 1981-1999. She is Clinical Professor in the Division of Nutritional Sciences and Associate Professor in the Department of Community Health at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She is Medical Supervisor, Bone Measurements (DXA) on Humans, Department of Kinesiology, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Dr. Trupin is also an appointed volunteer faculty at the University of Southern Illinois School of Medicine. She is the lead investigator at Women’s Health Practice Research Division. She is a Clinical Faculty Advisor for the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Urbana-Champaign, and has served on Doctoral Thesis Committee and Graduate Advisory Committee. Dr. Trupin is a member of the National Abortion Federation. She has served as a Clinical Advisor/Preceptor for Medical Students for Choice, and Preceptor, Summer Medical Student Research Fellowship Program, educational affiliation between University of Illinois College of Medicine at Urbana-Champaign and Women's Health Practice.

She serves on the Champaign County Medical Society Board and PersonalCare Peer Review and Credentials Committee.

Dr. Trupin graduated with a B.A. from Stanford University, completed medical school at New York Medical College, and did her residency in Obstetrics & Gynecology at L.A. County Hospital-USC Medical Center. She joined the medical partnership of Women's Health Practice.

Her special interests include contraception, menopause, osteoporosis, sexuality, premenstrual syndrome, gynecologic urology, abnormal Pap smears, and abortion medicine.

Dr. Trupin served as a Board Examiner for the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology from 1992-1997. She lead the certification task force for and the recertification for Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC).

She is a journal reviewer for refereed journals, lay publications, and web articles, and has had authored scholarly publications and self publications, including “Menopause: Making Peace With Change” (2004), and authored “Induced Abortion-Chapter 36” in Danforth’s Obstetrics and Gynecology, 8th and 9th edition, published by Lippincott-Raven Publishers. Dr. Trupin has been featured in national publications including Redbook, Cosmopolitan, Glamour. Her papers have been presented at national and international conferences, including the prestigious Society of Gynecology Investigation and the Federation of International Obstetricians and Gynecologists Meeting. Dr. Trupin has been awarded numerous grants for Women's Health Practice research, and has been conducting clinical research studies for more than 20 years. Research grants have included estrogen replacement therapy, uterine fibroids, sexually transmitted diseases, pelvic inflammatory disease, vaginal infections including yeast, contraception (both oral contraceptives and injectable contraceptives), stress management, fibrocystic breast condition, estrogen replacement therapy, hot flashes, bone density studies, endometriosis, urinary tract infections, urinary incontinence, human papilloma virus, cervical dysplasia, vaccination therapy against cervical cancer, low libido (sexual desire), overactive bladder, and premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD). Her research has lead to her participation in the worldwide Gardasil® investigator meeting held in Athens, Greece, in August 2006.

Dr. Trupin is currently a Principal Investigator for an investigational nasal spray to treat Female Sexual Arousal Disorder in premenopausal women, an investigational drug for women with low sexual desire, a clinical research study evaluating the safety and effectiveness of an experimental medication for cyclic breast pain associated with fibrocystic breast disease, a study testing the effects of the investigational use of an FDA approved medication on secondary amenorrhea, research study of an investigational drug for heavy menstrual bleeding, and a research study testing an investigational medication to relieve the intensity and frequency of menopause symptoms. In October 2006, she was a guest speaker at St. Francis Hospital, Evanston, Illinois, and January 2007, at Mount Sinai Hospital, Chicago, Illinois, addressing “Postmenopausal Hormone Therapy & The Risk of Breast Cancer”. She was also a webcast moderate for DesignWrite in December 2006 on the topic of “Postmenopausal Hormone Therapy and the Risk of Colorectal, Ovarian, and Endometrial Cancers”. She has been recognized as a Certified Clinical Densitometrist (CDD), bone densitometry certification by the International Society for Clinical Densitometry, is a Certified Menopause Practitioner by the North American Menopause Society, and Expert Certification in Diagnosis of Hypoactive Sexual Desire Disorder (HSDD).

Her hobbies include knitting, gardening, and collecting textiles. She is an Administrative Referee and nationally certified at the Stroke and Turn Level for USS Swimming, and is also President and one of the founding members of the Champaign County Aquatic Education and Development Corporation, a 501c3 corporation for the promotion of the health benefits of swimming.
